VKP Announces Writing Residency Fellowships

The Writing Residency Fellowships are two-and-a-half day residencies at Georgetown (with potentially one on the West Coast). Faculty investigators should come with 5 pages of foundational writing, work intensively over two and half days critiquing one another's drafts, and spend time in extended periods doing additional writing. The goal of the residencies will be to leave with about 15 pages of material and a clear sense of a plan for completion. Photograph of "The Dupont" at Dupont Circle
Residencies will be held at local Bed & Breakfast Inns

The Fellowship consists of support for travel and all expenses while in residence, as well as peer and consultation support before and after the residency on project write-ups.

There will be three residencies this year at CNDLS with 6 slots each.

People awarded writing residency fellowships would commit to the following:

  • delivering their foundational writing (presumably largely coming out of the posters but with some analyzed evidence) TWO WEEKS in advance of the residency,
  • reading their peers' work in the days leading up to the residency, and
  • producing a draft in the month or two following the residency.

Over the course of the weekend, participants will discuss sections of their text with their colleagues (in pairs and groups) and have a chance to meet with Project leaders to discuss their work. On Friday and Saturday, we will set aside large blocks of time for writing, and everyone will share about 15 pages in their Sunday morning small groups. The residency will end after lunch on Sunday.
